| National Guard Freedom Salute At Crab Meadow Beach |
|
The
Town of Huntington's Crab Meadow Beach in Northport hosted this New York
Army National Guard event which honored the Long Island soldiers of the First
Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment, and the 42nd Infantry
Division Band for their service to our country in Iraq, as well as their
families. Eleven members of the
“Fighting 69th” were killed in Iraq and the ceremony honored
these individuals and their families as well. 75 of the soldiers are from the Town of
Huntington. The National Guard
selected Town Supervisor Frank Petrone to be their Master of Ceremonies. Following the official ceremony and a
helicopter flyover, local fire departments treated soldiers and their families
to a barbecue thanks to food donated by local businesses like King
Kullen.
