NOTICE OF ELECTION
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a meeting of the qualified voters of the
Centerport Fire District in the Town of Huntington, Suffolk County, New York,
will be held at the Main Firehouse of the Centerport Fire District, 9 Park
Circle, Centerport, New York, on December 13, 2011 between the hours of 3:00
P.M. and 9:00 P.M., for the purpose of:
Electing one Fire Commissioner for a term of
five (5) years, commencing January 1, 2012, upon the expiration of the term of
PETER S. GUNTHER, present incumbent.
Every candidate for District office must, at the time of the election, be
a
resident
elector of the Fire District and shall have filed his name with the Secretary of
the Fire District at least twenty (20) days prior to the date of the Fire
District Election. In addition
thereto, the Board of Fire Commissioners has provided by resolution that
nominations of candidates for Fire District offices be submitted in petition
form subscribed by twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the District. In 2011 said petition must be filed with
the Secretary of the Fire District on or before November 23, 2011.
Every elector of the aforesaid Town who shall have resided in the Fire
District for a period of thirty (30) days next preceding any election of Fire
District officers and who on the date of said election is otherwise qualified to
vote and is registered under the provisions of Article 5 of the Election Law
shall be qualified to vote for such officers.
Please note that only those persons who have registered with the County
Board of Elections on or before the 23rd day before the Fire District
election day shall be eligible to vote.
In 2011, such registration must have taken place on or before November
21, 2011.
The Board of Fire Commissioners of the Centerport Fire District has
previously passed a resolution pursuant to the provisions of Section 175-b of
the Town Law authorizing the issuance of absentee ballots in elections for fire
district officers. Absentee ballots
for this election may be obtained from Leigh Ann Varese, District Secretary, at
9 Park Circle, Centerport, New York, (telephone number 631-261-5936) between the
hours of 9:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M. Monday through Friday.
If the absentee ballot is to be mailed, the application must be received
by the District Secretary on or before December 6, 2011. If the absentee ballot is to be
delivered personally to the voter the application must be received by the
District Secretary on or before December 12, 2011.
