Councilwoman Berland Honors Long Island School for the Gifted for Success in Knowledge Master Open

Councilwoman Susan A. Berland honored the Long Island School for the Gifted’s Ninth Grade Knowledge Master Team at Monday evening’s Town Board meeting with an official proclamation from the Town of Huntington for their successful performance in the 2011 Knowledge Master Open. The team placed first in New York State at the Junior High Small School Division Level.

The Long Island School for the Gifted’s Ninth Grade Knowledge Master was coached by Colleen Ziegler and Elizabeth Mirecki. The members of the team were Rose Bender, Grant Berland, Daniel Bonitto, Ariella Danziger, Jessica Huang, Hannah Johnston, Christopher Lee, Brent Mertz, Asante Mills, Iriowen Ojo, Zachary Poplawski, Jonathan Scheiner, Rahayma Sheikh, Najla Siddiqui.

Participating teams in the Knowledge Master Open receive a CD-ROM with a set of curriculum-based questions to be answered using computers at their school. Schools from all over the country participate in this highly competitive and selective contest.

“It was a pleasure to honor the Long Island School for the Gifted’s Ninth Grade Knowledge Master Team for their stellar performance in the 2011 Knowledge Master Open,” commented Councilwoman Berland. “Winning this national competition required skill, dedication, and the guidance of their devoted coaches, Ms. Mirecki and Ms. Ziegler. I would like to congratulate these talented students on their victory and wish them the very best in their future endeavors.”
