The VFW Post 9263 of Elwood/Commack recently hosted a grand opening celebration at their new meeting room located at the Bright Star Park Meeting Room at the B & D Farm.

The genesis of the creation of the Bright Star Park Meeting Room began in the fall of 2008, when members of the Elwood/Commack VFW came to Councilman Besen in search of a home. They had previously held their meetings in a small room at the VA Hospital in East Northport and these quarters could no longer accommodate them. Besen suggested the vacant farmhouse on the former B&D Farm, which had been acquired by the Town several years ago and the rest is history.  The remarkable renovations to the farmhouse were done by J. Petrocelli Construction, Inc at no cost to the Town, under the supervision of Jack Petrocelli, a proud member of the Elwood/Commack VFW.  Thanks to the dynamic partnership of Councilman Stuart Besen, Jack Petrocelli and our beloved veterans, the VFW Post 9263 truly have a home to call their own.

Shown in the photo are Councilman Stuart Besen, Councilman Mark Cuthbertson, Councilwoman Susan Berland, Councilwoman Glenda Jackson along with Town Clerk Jo-Ann Raia, and Assemblyman Andrew Raia along with members and guests in attendance.
