Huntington, NY - Councilwoman Susan A. Berland was on hand
Sunday morning at the 3rd annual Marcie Mazzola Memorial Run at the Huntington
YMCA to send adult participants off on a four-mile race. The annual race
raises funds for the Marcie Mazzola Foundation, a not-for-profit organization
founded by the family of Marcie Mazzola, a young woman who died tragically in a
car accident in 2002.
The Foundation, founded in 2003, raises money for children's issues in
Marcie's honor, which have included Suffolk County's Child Advocacy Center, the
Smile Train, the Huntington YMCA Summer Camp Program and the Coalitiion Against
Child Abuse and Neglect.
"It is truly an honor for me to be here today", commented Councilwoman
Berland. "I admire your foundation for creating something beautiful out of
a tragedy. The Marcie Mazzola Foundation has touched the lives of so many
children. Marcie's legacy will live on thanks to her family, who founded
this incredible organization, and through all of the runners who have donated
their time, money, energy and effort."
