Ester Bivona
began her public service career in 1982 as Deputy Receiver of Taxes
for the Town of Huntington. In 1991 Ester was elected Receiver of Taxes
for Huntington and has served in that capacity since then.
As Receiver of Taxes, Mrs. Bivona was a strong voice in
opposition to the Suffolk County Legislature's $100.00 additional penalty charge
on delinquent taxes. She refused to include the charge on tax bills issued by
her office and worked to provide taxpayers with information enabling them to
receive a refund of the illegal charge.
Working through the New York State Receivers and Collectors
Association, Mrs. Bivona lobbied to issue receipts for taxes paid, only when
requested. This has saved the taxpayers money, in postage and in man-hours
needed to provide receipts.
Her common sense approach is seen in many of the innovations
she has initiated in the Huntington Tax Office. Through her efforts, Huntington
is the first Town Hall equipped with an ATM machine for the convenience of
residents and employees and is the first town tax office accepting credit cards
for tax payments with no charge to the town.
Mrs. Bivona holds a Bachelor's Degree in Education from SUNY at
Geneseo and a Masters Degree in Education from Hofstra University.
