MISSION:
The Division of Personnel is charged with the responsibility of assisting the
Supervisor, the Town Board and the Directors of the various departments in
achieving and maintaining the approved levels of staffing with the most
qualified employees.
The division interacts with the various federal, state and county agencies to
insure the implementation of legal and appropriate hiring practices and serves
the individual employee in providing current, accurate information concerning
their obligations, rights and benefits as public servants.
The division enforces the adherence to labor laws and acts as facilitator in
the resolution of any labor disputes that may occur. The division further
provides employment information and record keeping services to the Town, the
Unions that represent the employees and to any appropriate party of
interest.
The services of the division extend not only to current employees but
additionally to the many retired former employees for whom the division acts as
a conduit for information and services from the New York State retirement system
and the New York State Empire Health Insurance Plan.

OPERATING ENVIRONMENT:
The Personnel Office staff consists of the Town Personnel Officer and
three administrative support staff members. The office is located in Room
210 in Town Hall, 100 Main Street, Huntington NY.

How do I get a full time job at the Town of Huntington?
Jobs that are available in the operating departments as both skilled and
unskilled laborers are generally filled by having the prospective employee
complete an employment application and undergoing a interview and background
check process. This category of job is represented by Local 342, Long Island
Public Service Employees.
Jobs that would be considered clerical, administrative, technical or
semi-professional are generally filled by appointment from civil service lists
established by the Suffolk County Department of Civil Service. Individuals who
have taken the appropriate competitive examinations given by the Suffolk
County Civil Service Commission are offered the opportunity to interview
for available positions in the Town. Jobs in these categories are generally
represented by the Civil Service Employees Association. (CSEA). More

Vacancies for full time positions which fall either under the Local 342 union
contract or the CSEA union contract are posted on the bulletin board outside of

The Town begins to accept applications for summer employment on January
1st of each year. Summer Employment
Applications are available on this web site under the heading of Online
Library.
Summer positions are generally filled by the second week of May.
Do I need to make an appointment to fill out an employment
application?
No. Applications for employment are available at the division office in room
210 at Town Hall any business day from 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM. Applications are also available on this web site in the
Online Library Employment Applications , once filed with the Personnel
Division, remain on active file until the end of the calendar year in which it
was filed.
If I work for the Town do I have to join a union?
Other than elected officials or those persons in appointed management
positions, every employee of the Town must be a member of either Local
342 or the Civil Service Employees Association, Region 1, Local 852.
I worked for the Town in the past and would like to receive service
credit for this time with the NYS Retirement System. Whom do I
contact?
