MISSION:
The Town Clerk shall have custody of all records, books, and papers of the Town, attend all meetings of the Town Board, act as clerk thereof and keep a complete and accurate record of the proceedings of each meeting. The Town Clerk shall issue all licenses or permits required by New York State and Town law and collect all applicable fees. The Town Clerk is also the Registrar of Vital Statistics.

OPERATING ENVIRONMENT:
The Town Clerk, as secretary to the Town Board and Board of Trustees, attends all Town Board Meetings and is responsible for Town Board and Board of Trustees minutes, legal notices, certifications ot Town records and filing of change of zone applications. The Town Clerk is the Commissioner of Licenses for New York State for the issuing of Sporting and Marriages Licenses, Disability Parking Permits and authority for issuing of Bingo and Games of Chance Licenses, among others. This office also issues Local Licenses and Permits: Dog, Shellfish, Taxicab, Tow Truck, Peddler, Refuse, Automobile Junk Yard, Commuter Parking Permits, among others.
The Town Clerk serves as the Registrar of Vital Statistics for the issuance and filing of Birth and Death Certificates, serves as Commissioner of Elections for Special Elections held within the Town and is Records Management Officer. As Records Management Officer, the Town Clerk maintains jurisdiction of the Records Center and Archives, and oversees the Town's Records Management Program. As Marriage Officer for the Town of Huntington, the Town Clerk has authority to perform Civil Marriage Ceremonies.
The staff of the Town Clerk's Office is equipped to provide the general public, residents and non-residents, attorneys, accountants and other professionals with information on varied subjects including, but not limited to, local government types of services available, town ordinances, licenses, and permit requirements. Not only is the function of the office to help residents that walk into Town Hall, but a vast amount of work is also generated through the mail and by telephone.

INFORMATION FOR MARRIAGE LICENSES
Where do you get a marriage license?
A couple that intends to be married in New York State must apply in person for a marriage license to any town clerk or city clerk in the state. The application for a license must be signed by both parties in the presence of the town or city clerk. A representative cannot apply for the license on behalf of the applicants. This applies even if the representative has been given the Power of Attorney.
The Huntington Town Clerk's Office hours are Monday thru Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 P.M. The office is open late on Friday nights until 7:30 P.M. unless it is a holiday weekend. However, appointments have to be made for Friday evenings and they are only for Huntington residents. Please call 631-351-3206 if you wish to make an appointment.
Please Bring the Following Documents With You When You Come to Apply For Your Marriage License:
A. CURRENT FORM OF ID: (one of these)
1. Driver's License.
2. Non Driver's ID.
3. Passport (must be VALID).
4. Immigration Record.
B. PROOF OF AGE (one of these)
1. Original or Certified Birth Certificate.
2. Original or Certified Baptismal Records.
3. Naturalization Record.
If you are under 18 years of age, you must be accompanied by parents.
C. PROOF OF DIVORCE OR DEATH (Only if you were previously married.)
1. Certified or Original Divorce Papers for each Divorce.
2. Original or Certified Death Certificate.
D. Second Ceremony-
Couples who were married in New York State, other states or countries, who wish to obtain a marriage license for a second ceremony (whether civil or religious) must provide an original or certified copy of their Certificate of Marriage.
E. $40.00 fee-
personal check,bank check, business check or money order- (effective April 30, 2007 cash payments are no longer accepted in the Town of Huntington). ATM/Debit Cards (Maestro, pulsePAY, NYCE, STAR, AFFN ACCEL, MONEYSTATION) are accepted over the counter. If you choose to use an ATM/Debit Card you will incur an additional $2.50 convenience fee charged by VitalChek Network (not the Town of Huntington) that will appear on your monthly bank statement.
***ALL FOREIGN DOCUMENTS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A TRANSLATION ON WHICH APPEARS THE NOTARIZED SIGNATURE OF THE TRANSLATOR. THEY WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED UNLESS THEY ARE TRANSLATED.***
Is there a waiting period?
Yes. Although the marriage license is issued immediately, the marriage ceremony may not take place within 24 hours from the exact time that the license was issued. There is no 24 hour waiting period for a Second Ceremony.
When both applicants are 16 years of age or older, the 24 hour waiting period may be waived by an order of a justice of the Supreme Court or a judge of the County Court of the county in which either applicant resides. If either person is under 16 years of age, the order must be from the Family Court judge of the county in which the person under 16 years of age resides.
How long is the license valid?
A marriage license is valid for 60 days, beginning the day after it is issued. For Active Military it is valid for 180 days.

Request for Copies of Birth Certificates, Death Certificates and Marriage Certificates:
TO REQUEST COPIES OF BIRTH CERTIFICATES
Huntington Registrar Jo-Ann Raia has on record only those births that occurred within the Town of Huntington, including the incorporated Villages of Asharoken, Huntington Bay and Lloyd Harbor, in Suffolk County, New York. Requests for births that occurred in the Village of Northport should be directed to the Northport Village Clerk/Registrar at 631 261-7502. A certified transcript of a certificate of live birth may only be released upon the request of the individual named on the certificate, a parent, legal guardian or by Court Order.
Your written request should be addressed to Jo-Ann Raia, Town Clerk/Registrar, Town of Huntington, 100 Main Street, Huntington, NY 11743 and should include:
- The Full Name of the Person at Birth
- Date of Birth
- Place of Birth
- Father’s Full Name
- Mother’s Full Name (maiden surname)
- The purpose for which the record is required *
- Your relationship to the person on the record requested
- Please include a photocopy of your current Driver’s License or other Acceptable Identification **
There is a $l0.00 fee for each certified copy produced on safety paper with a raised seal. Effective April 30, 2007 cash payments over $25.00 are no longer accepted in the Town of Huntington, so payments over this amount must be paid for by money order or a bank check. ATM/Debit Cards (Maestro, pulsePAY, NYCE, STAR, AFFN ACCEL, MONEYSTATION) are accepted over the counter. ** Types of Acceptable Identification: Driver’s License, Non-driver’s ID, Passport, Naturalization Papers, Military ID, Police report of Lost or Stolen ID. Married women MUST provide documentation linking maiden name surname to married name.**

Commuter Parking and Disability Parking:
COMMUTER PARKING PERMITS
Huntington Residents:
The fee for a Resident Commuter Parking Permit is $75.00 for one year from date of issue and is valid in all of the Long Island Railroad Parking Lots in the Town of Huntington. This includes the LIRR Station at Huntington, Cold Spring Harbor, Greenlawn and East Northport-Northport and the Parking Garages located on the north side and south side of the Huntington Station.
Non-Residents:
The fee for a Non-Resident Commuter Parking Permit is $150.00 and expires yearly on September 1, regardless of when you purchase your Permit. Your Non- Resident Commuter Parking Permit is valid in commuter parking areas within the Town of Huntington WITH THE EXCEPTION OF COLD SPRING HARBOR . To obtain a Commuter Parking Permit by mail, you may obtain an application from Town Clerk Jo-Ann Raia’s office, the Huntington train station or you may print out an application from the online links located below.
Please fill out the application, enclose the required fee and a photocopy of your vehicle registration. If you are applying for a Resident Permit, the registration must reflect a Town of Huntington address. (If the vehicle registration does not reflect your name and/or a Town of Huntington address, please contact (631) 351-3206 to request a Proof of Residency/Proof of Ownership affidavit. The completed, notarized affidavit should be returned with your renewal application and fee).

Residents who own a hybrid/alternative fuel vehicle may now apply for a special permit, free of charge, that enables them to park in the LIRR Station parking garage/lots located in the Town of Huntington (excluding the $10.00 lot at the Huntington Station), metered parking areas in the Town of Huntington (excluding the incorporated Village of Northport ) and beach parking lots (excluding marinas).
To obtain this permit by mail, you may obtain an application from Town Clerk Jo-Ann Raia’s office, the Huntington train station or you may print out an application from the online links located in this website.

Dog Licenses:
OWNER’S INSTRUCTIONS
1. All dogs four (4) months of age or older are to be licensed, as well as any dog under 4 months of age if running at large.
2. Print all information, sign and date the form.
3. ID and/or Markings – please indicate implanted electronic chips or tattoos, missing ears or other significant markings.
4. Check the Type of License you are applying for and be sure to include proof of age if applying for the Senior Citizen discount. Submit appropriate payment by check or money order made payable to Jo-Ann Raia, Town Clerk.
5. For validation of this license, submit in person or by mail the application, fee, veterinarian’s certification of spaying or neutering or proof of exemption, and proof or rabies vaccination to the Huntington Town Clerk’s office.
6. You should receive your next year’s license renewal by mail from the Town Clerk’s office 30 days prior to the expiration date of this license. If a renewal is not received, contact Jo-Ann Raia, Town Clerk at (631) 351-3206.
NOTE: For replacement of a lost identification tag, call or visit the Town Clerk’s office or website to request a form for a replacement ID Tag. There is a $3.00 fee for a replacement ID tag.
IMPORTANT: If your address changes within the Town of Huntington or your dog is lost, stolen, transferred to another owner or deceased, please call the Town Clerk’s office to report this occurrence.
