MISSION:
The Office of the Receiver of Taxes is responsible for keeping the tax assessment roll and warrant delivered by the Suffolk County Legislature until the warrant expires and is delivered to the Suffolk County Treasurer. To collect taxes and assessments levied in the Town and upon any warrants received and to perform all other duties imposed by law.

OPERATING ENVIRONMENT:

The office of the Receiver of Taxes collects real estate taxes and assessments levied within the Town. The Tax Receiver is also responsible for the collection of Dix Hills Water rents. All Town, School, and Special District taxes are transferred to the Supervisor and the County levy paid to the County Treasurer. The Tax Receiver maintains tax rolls to include change of ownership and a listing of taxes in arrears; calculates taxes on apportionments and erroneous assessments. The office sends out tax bills once a year; the first half payment is due January 10th, and the second half payment is due May 31st.

The 2012-2013 tax period will begin December 1, 2012. The deadline for the first half installment is January 10, 2013; the second half is due by May 31, 2013. First half payments made after the January 10th deadline will be charged a penalty. Payments made after May 31, 2013 must be submitted to the Suffolk County Treasurer in Riverhead and should include appropriate penalty and interest.

People wishing to use their Discover/Novus card can continue to pay directly at the tax office or use the convenient form on the back of the instruction sheet included with the tax bill.
All credit card transactions are subject to a convenience fee.
